About

Ever since William the Conqueror (1066), every king and queen of England, with only two exceptions, has been crowned here. The Coronation Chair is kept in one of the chapels. This abbey is also a pantheon: many of the country’s most famous figures are buried here (Charles Dickesn, Isaac Newton among others) or have had statues erected to them. One of the chapels contains the most illustrious tomb of them all, the shrine of St Edward the Confessor.
