Tower of London

William the Conqueror built this tower to control traffic on the Thames. The fortress was also used as a palace and a prison; John the Good, Anne Boleyn and Rudolph Hess were all imprisoned here. The Yeomen Warders, in Tudor costume, continue to guard the Crown Jewels and the Royal Insignia on display here, as well as the large collection of weapons.

Legend says that the kingdom and the Tower will fall if the six resident ravens ever leave the fortress.
It was Charles II who supposedly first insisted that the ravens of the Tower should be protected.
