Key attraction information

Construction start: 1675
Height: 111 m
Style: English Baroque

After the last war, the cathedral was left standing in the midst of the ruined City. Churchill had protected Wren’s masterpiece, which became the symbol of the Londoners’ indomitable spirit in the face of the Blitz. Its dome, which took 26 years to reach completion in 1711, is the largest in the world after that of St Peter’s in Rome and soars to a height of 361 ft. The Golden Gallery at its summit allows breathtaking views. The interior boasts some 18th-crntury decorative treasures: wrought-iron choir gates by Tijou, frescos by Thomhill, choir stalls by Gibbons. The tombs of Wren and Nelson are in the crypt.

Charles, Prince of Wales, married Lady Diana Spencer on 2 July 1981  which made St Paul’s a favorite visitors spot.
